LIGHT flyweight Reymark “Machine Gun” Taday was voted as the Philippine Games and Amusements Board’s “Fighter of the Month” for August
Tadday (8W-2L-0D, 4 KOs) is the first recipient of latest award in the GAB monthly ratings.
The “Fighter of the Month” was discussed in the previously held Philippine Boxing Ratings meeting at the GAB main office in Makati City.
It was introduced and initiated by veteran sports columnist Quinito Henson of the Philippine Star.
The GAB explained: “It was unitedly approved by those who were present in the ratings, that we should also give citation to those boxers who also fought hard, gained superiority in winning their recent fights.”
Veteran referee-judge Salvador Lopez said: “The “Boxer of the Month” is to recognize a Filipino boxer with the best accomplishment during the month whilst the “Fighter of the Month” is introduced to appreciate a lesser known boxer who has demonstrated the best fighting qualities (i.e., as determined by the Ratings Committee).”
The 22-year old Taday previously won by a unanimous decision on Vincent Bautista (5W-7L-4D) last June 23 at the Calamba Sports Center in Calamba, Laguna.
Taday, a native of Cotabato City, also won two straight wins early this year. He first scored an upset over then undefeated Carlo Caesar Penalosa (7W-0L) by a split decision last Feb. 25 at the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque City.
Taday then retired Jovani Casin (3W-1L-2D) in the 2nd round last May 22 at the Binan Town Plaza.
Meanwhile, IBF world super flyweight champion Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas was the unanimous choice for the “Boxer of the Month due to his successful title-defense last July 2 in Australia.
