When Dana White talked about the UFC overtaking soccer, I don’t think this is what he meant. The UFC boss once lambasted the sport as “the least-talented sport on Earth.” Which is exactly the kind of commentary that top heavyweight prospect Tai Tuivasa is echoing. Only he’s not just talking about fútbol, but rather how current heavyweight MMA in the UFC reflects it.
In a recent interview with Sub Radio, the Aussie gave his thoughts on Stipe Miocic, Francis Ngannou, Stefan Struve and the heavyweight division in general:
“Cause it’s boring,” Tuivasa replied when asked why he disparaged the current 265 lb roster. “Heavyweights that I used to watch, you know, it would be one or two (big punches), just exciting, big hits. Now I think it’s just… they’re all just going out there and fucken shit. It’s boring. I feel like I’m watching the soccer or something.”
“Oh yeah, he’s a good fighter,” Tuivasa said, speaking of champion Stipe Miocic, “but when he wants to be boring he can be boring. When he wants to win.”
Currently Tuivasa is reportedly planned for a fight with Andrei Arlovski on the upcoming UFC 225 pay-per-view card. The bout would be his third since making his UFC debut back in November of 2017. Arlovski is currently coming off a pair of decision wins, over Junior Albiniand Stefan Struve. The fight has not yet been made official; stay tuned to Bloody Elbow for more news and updates.
