With Matt Brown set to fight Donald Cerrone at UFC 206, Tarec Saffiedine will instead face Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 207.
The loss of Donald Cerrone vs. Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 205 has created a bit of a domino effect as far as welterweight matchmaking. Prior to last Friday’s weigh-ins, the plan was for Cerrone vs. Gastelum at 205 and Tarec Saffiedine vs. Matt Brown at UFC 207. That obviously never materialized, and Cerrone has instead been booked against Matt Brown at UFC 206. Following a report from MMAnytt.se, the UFC confirmed that Dong Hyun Kim will replace Brown and take on the Belgian at UFC 207.
Kim (21-3-1, 1 NC) was scheduled to fight Gunnar Nelson in the main event of this Saturday’s UFC Belfast card, but was removed from the event after Nelson withdrew to injury. “Stun Gun” has yet to fight in 2016, with his last appearance ending in a 1st round TKO of Dominic Waters.
Saffiedine (16-5) has fought twice this year, beating Jake Ellenberger by unanimous decision before losing to Rick Story by the same result. Injuries have severely affected the former Strikeforce champion’s time in the UFC, hence just four fights inside the Octagon since his 2014 debut.
UFC 207 is headlined by a pair of bantamweight title fights, as women’s champion Amanda Nunes takes on Ronda Rousey in the main event, while men’s champion Dominick Cruz battles Cody Garbrandt in the co-main. The card airs live on Friday, December 30th from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
