Michelle Waterson vs Tecia Torres Esther Lin, MMA Fighting
The next UFC women’s strawweight contender might be decided in the shadow of DisneyWorld.
Tecia Torres will meet Jessica Andrade at UFC on FOX 28 on Feb. 24 in Orlando, the Orlando Sentinel reported Wednesday night, citing UFC officials. Andrade had been tied to a fight with Karolina Kowalkiewicz on the same card, but Torres will now be her opponent.
Torres (10-1) is coming off an impressive, unanimous decision win over Michelle Waterson at UFC 218 earlier this month. “Tiny Tornado” has won three straight and is closing in on a title fight. Torres, 28, owns a 1-1 record against current champion Rose Namajunas in her career. Namajunas was the only official loss on her record.
Andrade (17-6) has won four of her last five fights, most recently a unanimous decision win over Claudia Gadelha at UFC Japan in September. The Brazilian fighter’s only loss in that time came in a title fight with Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 211 in May. Andrade, 26, has had a career renaissance since moving from bantamweight down to the strawweight division in 2016.
UFC on FOX 28 does not yet have a main event scheduled. Also on the card will be a welterweight bout between Alan Jouban and Ben Saunders and a lightweight scrap between Gilbert Burns and Olivier Aubin-Mercier.
