Lightweight prospect Teofimo Lopez looks like he officially make the leap to contender tonight on ESPN, quickly dispatching Mason Menard just 44 seconds into the first round of the fight.
Lopez (11-0, 9 KOs) came out early and hit Menard (34-4, 24 KOs) with a big right hand that seemed to hurt Menard. Shortly after Lopez hit Menard with another overhand right hand that put Menard’s lights out before he could even hit the deck. Menard landed face down and was clearly out, causing the referee to quickly wave off the fight. The fight was so short that you can catch the full replay right here.
Menard had to be helped up from the canvas and all the way back to the locker room, still visibly dazed as he left the ring. CompuBox Stats had Lopez landing 8 of 18 total punches while Menard was only able to land 1 of 4 before getting put down.
In the post-fight interview Lopez said he knew that Menard was a tough opponent but that he wanted to test him early. And with the win Lopez will likely be looking to snag himself a title fight in the coming year.
