Tevin Farmer has a mandatory defense of his IBF super featherweight title due next, and he made some headlines this week for an altercation with contender Joseph Diaz Jr in Las Vegas, which led to him later saying he wasn’t going to give Diaz a shot at his title, and that he would make potential opponents “starve” the way the sport made him starve for years as a contender without the connections to get a title shot.

But Farmer (29-4-1, 6 KO) stressed in that interview that he would fight his mandatory challengers, and then fight who he wants to fight. And one guy he wants to fight is WBC titleholder Miguel Berchelt, sending a tweet to WBC boss Mauricio Sulaiman to make that fight later this year:

Berchelt (35-1, 31 KO) will defend his title again this coming Saturday, facing Francisco Vargas in a main event rematch on ESPN. Farmer is a DAZN fighter and Berchelt is now working with Top Rank, but it’s the sort of fight that could get done, because neither guy is worth huge money or anything. A deal could realistically be worked out between the sides in this case.

Next up for Farmer, though, will be Guillaume Frenois (46-1-1, 12 KO), a former European champion and current fringe contender at 130. That’s the IBF’s order, and Farmer will do it.
