BANGKOK (July 14) — The officials in the professional boxing of Thailand had agreed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Philippines’ Games and Amusements Board (GAB) to assure the safety of the professional boxers as well as the quality of fights between the two countries.
Professional Boxing Association of Thailand (PBAT) president Naris Singwancha and World Boxing Council vice-president Police Gen. Kovid Bhakdibhumi both signed the MOU with GAB headed by its Chairman Abraham Kahlil Mitra.
It was witnessed by the WBC Asian Boxing Council (ABCO) Executive Secretary Col. Damrong Simakajornboon and GAB Commissioners Edward Trinidad and Fritz Gaston.
Also present were WBC Muaythai Secretary Patrick Cusik, WBC ABCO Executive Coordinator Kiate Sirigul and GAB Boxing Division’s Ralph Diokno.
Both will require reciprocal submission of favorable endorsements from respective governing bodies of the country where applicant boxer, official or any person connected in the conduct of professional boxing is a citizen, as one of the pre-requisites for the issuance of GAB or PBAT or Thailand Boxing Commission as the case maybe.
They also both agreed that the both commissions shall require the submission of a favorable endorsement of the commission of either two countries before a license may be issued in favor of the professional boxer, official or any person connected in the conduct of professional boxing.
“I fully agree with this for its very good. It must now be a standard for both countries to first get an approval before it they will allow the boxers to fight”, said Damrong.
The MOU shall be effective immediately upon execution hereof and shall be valid until mutually revoked by the parties.
“I think it is a good idea,” said Singwancha, who is also recognized by the Sports Authority of Thailand.
GAB had also earlier signed a MOU with the Japan Boxing Commission for the same purpose.
