Dave Castro, the CEO of CrossFit, participated in the Medical Seminar of the 99th Convention of the World Boxing Association (WBA) with a very interesting intervention about CrossFit as a complementary activity for boxing. The President of the WBA, Gilberto Jesús Mendoza, and Robert Guerrero also participated in the seminar.
The WBA and Crossfit began studying the possibility of making a training agreement and give better tools to the fighters through Crossfit.
Castro is president of CrossFit Games and spoke about its benefits as a complement to the fighters’ training. Castro based his comments on studies and his experience with former champion Robert Guerrero, who achieved great things in his career by working with Castro.
“Long runs are bad for a fighter’s knees. With CrossFit as a complement, they can shorten the distances and have a healthier body and better preparation”, Castro said.
For his part, “The Ghost” Guerrero spoke about his experience: “With the CrossFit I managed to stay in shape. I felt I was always in the best shape. At the camp, I just raised the level and never worried about making the weight”.
“The most important thing is that when I go back to my corner, the recovery is instantaneous and I can go into the next round with a lot of energy. That’s thanks to the resistance exercises and the lung exercises. I believe in Crossfit a lot”, Guerrero said.
The WBA is continuously looking for innovation and the inclusion of different disciplines that can contribute to the preparation and performance of the fighters. The pioneer organization and President Mendoza believe that CrossFit is an ideal tool for the benefit of those who practice boxing and hope to reach a fruitful agreement.
