UFC 205 gets its first confirmed fight as a clash first targeted for UFC 202 now happens at this event, with veteran Thiago Alves making his lightweight debut against The Ultimate Fighter 15 runner-up and New York native, Al Iaquinta. Combate first broke the news.
Alves (21-10) has been away from the Octagon ever since a second-round TKO loss to Carlos Condit back in May 2015. Before that, he was able to put together a pair of wins over Jordan Mein by TKO and Seth Baczysnki by unanimous decision.
Iaquinta (12-3-1) is at a good point in his career as he is on a four-fight winning streak, with wins over the likes Rodrigo Damm, Ross Pearson, Joe Lauzon and Jorge Masvidal, three of which came by way of KO. His last loss, a D’arce choke to Mitch Clarke, back in May 2014.
UFC 205 will be the UFC’s first event in the state of New York since UFC 7 and the first one in New York City. It’s scheduled to happen on November 12. So far, only a fight between Tim Kennedy and Rashad Evans has been targeted for the event.
