After 15 months away from the ONE Circle, Tiffany “No Chill” Teo showed tremendous resilience in her comeback bout against Japan’s Ayaka Miura.
Teo scored a late third-round TKO win over Miura in their strawweight mixed martial arts match-up at ONE: KING OF THE JUNGLE on Friday, 28 February, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Miura came close to a finish in round one when she took side control after a brief scramble and locked-in a deep arm-triangle.
With more than two minutes remaining, it looked like there would be no escape for the 30-year-old from Team Highlight Reel, but she eventually found a way out and peppered her foe with punches before the round ended.
“No Chill” started to take control of the match in the second stanza, displaying much better takedowns and finding her range on the feet as she landed a left-hook, straight-right combination that staggered Miura. After that, the Japanese athlete could not replicate her success from round one and was unable to mount any more attacks.
With Miura struggling to snag a takedown in the final round, the Singaporean continued to outstrike her opponent. “No Chill” tagged Miura with punches and kicks and then beckoned her opponent to come forward and engage with her.
In response, the Japanese athlete attempted a takedown, but Teo sprawled and landed on top of her rival, who had little energy left in her tank.
“No Chill” punished her with punches to the body and head until referee Olivier Coste called a stop to the action with just 15 seconds left on the clock.
The win improved Teo’s record to 9-1 to set up a potential rematch with reigning ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan.
