Super welterweight Arnel Tinampay and lightweight Edward “The Nightmare” Mancito arrived in Tanzania the other day from Manila.
They were accompanied by Coach Allan Alegria, former Philippine welterweight and junior welterweight champion.
Tinampay and Mancito said that they were interviewed by a media yesterday.
Tinampay said that his opponent Idd Pialari of Tazmania told him that he will not last long during the fight. But Tinampay too said that he will not last longer.
“Every round pa ning kamotan mitumba”, (Every round I will do my best) said Tinampay.
He only has to reduce .3 from his weight of 154 lbs. or super welterweight.
Mancito, on the other hand said that he already got the proper weight at 135 lbs. or lightweight.
Opponent Salimu Jengo said that he will get Mancito in five rounds only. But Mancito retaliated by saying that he too will only get him at three rounds.
“Ang akong kontra kutob lang three rounds lang,” said Mancito.
Meanwhile, Coach Alan Alegria, who accompanied the two Filipino fighters met also Filipino Ricky Agayas, owner and trainer at the Red Lion Combat Sports Gym at Dar es Salaam in Tazmania.
Agayas has been staying in Tazmania for nine years already. He has many clients in boxing. Agayas is a good friend of promoter/matchmaker/manager Brico Santig of Highlabd Boxing Promotion.
Alegria said that the weather is similar to the Philippines while there are also many poor people.
“The food here is also cheap,” said Alegria.
Alegria said that you can spend P300 only for one week.
“OK lang sa tanan pero ang mga kontrata nila ug round nga dulaan wala ko kasabot kay ang mga boxer man gisabot sa promoter,” (It’s OK but I don’t understand their contracts and round games because the boxers were talking with the promoter,) said Alegria.
