Tom Breese has a new opponent for UFC London.
Originally slated to face Alessio Di Chirico at the March 16 event, the Birmingham native will now face Brazilian veteran Cezar Ferreria in the English capital.
Five days after Di Chirico announced that he was out of his bout with Breese, UFC announced that “Mutante” would step in to face highly touted British middleweight through its social media feeds.
Breese (11-1-0) made a statement in his middleweight debut last year in Liverpool when he stopped infamously durable Australian Dan Kelly in the first round of their preliminary card bout.
Up until that point, the Team Renegade coach has collected a 3-1 record as a UFC welterweight with wins over Luiz Dutra Jr., Cathal Pendred and Keita Nakamura. His first professional defeat, a split-decision loss to Sean Strickland, resulted in his decision to move up to the heavier weight bracket.
Ferreira (13-7-0) looks to bounce back from his decision loss to Ian Heinisch at UFC Buenos Aries in November. The defeat snapped a two-fight win streak for the Brazilian on the back of his wins over Nate Marquardt and Karl Roberson.
“Mutante” is currently 9-5 in the UFC since his signing in 2012. His most notable wins came against Thiago Santos, Anthony Smith, former Cage Warriors champion Jack Hermansson and his previously cited victory over former middleweight title contender Marquardt.
Peter Carroll and Niall McGrath take a closer look at this year’s UFC London event on this week’s episode of Eurobash. Check it out below:
