Ahead of Danny Garcia’s beatdown of Adrian Granados, the PBC on Fox crew took the opportunity to announce that Tony Harrison will face Jermell Charlo on June 23rd in a rematch of their controversial December battle.
The fight will air on Fox at a location to be announced.
Few gave the skilled-but-fragile Harrison (28-2, 21 KO) much of a chance when he faced Charlo (31-1, 15 KO) in the latter’s fourth title defense and about the same number scored the fight for him, but he walked away with the unanimous decision regardless. The WBC ultimately ordered a rematch, so here we are.
Does anyone see this going any differently? Seven months doesn’t seem like enough time for either man to fundamentally adjust his style. Then again, I’ve seen rematches where the loser/”winner” of the first fight completely torched his man the second time around, such as Frankie Edgar-BJ Penn in the UFC, so who knows?
