You have maybe seen reports on the net telling you that Artur Beterbiev has found a new promotional home, that the Russian native and Canadian resident has latched on with the Las Vegas based Top Rank.
Balderdash, says Top Rank executive Carl Moretti tells me.
Specifically, when I asked him if he likes that Beterbiev versus Marcus Browne light heavyweight showdown that has been kickin’ around Rumorville, he replied, “We have nothing to do with either fighter.”
Wait, what…
Yep, those reports are “more internet BS,” Moretti stated.
As for that April 19 date that is being bandied around, he noted that April 19 is a Thursday. “I didn’t know we are doing shows on Thursday now!”
Beterbiev has been under the Yvon Michel promotional umbrella and is as far as I know still in that relationship. Browne is a PBC fighter, managed by Keith Connolly.
Beterbiev holds a 12-0 mark and holds the IBF 175 pound crown, which he grabbed off the vacant shelf when he fought Enrico Koelling, on a Top Rank card, last November. Browne last fought in January, and owns a 21-0 mark. He is No. 3 in the IBF, and No. 1 and No. 2 are open slots, for the record.
