TOUGH ENCOUNTER FOR PEDRIN

wbcBy WBCnews

Former WBC light flyweight champion Pedro Guevara (28-2-1, 17 KOs) won by a six  round technical decision over Ruben “Huracan” Montoya (14-4-1, 9 KOs) after the bout was stopped due to a clash of heads,  which caused a deep cut over Pedrin`s right eye.

Ruben who was superbly conditioned had definitely and determinedly come to fight hard and he did just that,   in this flyweight bout.   Outclassed by the willowy, taller Pedro,  he was  not so easily outfought and he kept on coming.

Previously baby faced Pedro, who  was sporting a whispy “Desert Island”  beard,  dug hooks into Ruben`s ribs, but was himself caught by some crisp right hooks to the head.   In the fourth Pedro knocked out Ruben`s mouth guard and there was a brief time out while it was ringsed and replaced.  Then Ruben returned the compliment with a peach of a right hook to the face, which hurt Pedro, testing his iron chin.   Pedro was warned to stop using his left forearm as a prop, by Referee Lupe Garcia.

The crowd was unfairly whistling, an attempt to spur Pedro to stop a stubborn and tough opponent, who refused to buckle under a welter of exotic blows, and who himself dipped and bobbed, returning incoming fire.

The fight was halted at the end of the sixth round, due to the heads collision and the scores were:  78-72, 79-75, 80-74.
