Trainer: Dereck Chisora will fight on

Following a devastating knockout loss to Dillian Whyte in their Dec. 22 rematch in London, veteran heavyweight Dereck Chisora apparently has no plans to retire, according to his trainer Don Charles.

From Sky Sports:

“One thing that’s been ascertained, is Derek Chisora is not retiring, he wants to fight on. … We will repair. He will repair and he’ll be back, especially now with the inclusion of David Haye, the new regime, the discipline that David has brought into Chisora’s life. If he can build on this, then I think Derek Chisora is a force to be reckoned with, within this current market.”

Chisora (29-9, 21 KO) has certainly taken his lumps as a pro, and at 35, time is against him. It’s unlikely he’s going to become a serious contender or anything, but he’s got years left to be at least somewhat relevant in the heavyweight division, at least as long as he can put up a fight. There’s always going to be a market for a heavyweight who comes to fight and brings action.

So we’ll see what the future holds for Chisora, but I never completely count out a guy who fights with the spirit that he does at his best. He might lose more than he wins going forward, depending on how he’s matched, but it could still be fun to watch him battle on.
