Check out the bonuses from UFC’s “Tournament of Champions” TUF 24 finale from the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. We tell you who won, who didn’t, and why.
The Palms in Las Vegas was home to a decent night of fights, with three (T)KO’s, one submission and eight decisions. Here’s who managed to walk away $50,000 richer
Performances of the Night: Sara McMann & Anthony Smith
Sara McMann showed why she was once considered the top threat to Ronda Rousey at 135 lbs with a powerful performance over top contender Alexis Davis. After a first round battle, the Olympic silver medallist secured a hip-toss takedown in round two and got both a win and a $50,000 bonus courtesy of a beautiful arm triangle choke.
Anthony Smith managed to come back from being completely dominated in the first round of his fight against Elvis Mutapcic, getting revenge in the second stanza with a huge variety of strikes, from kicks to knees to punches, before dropping Mutapcic for good with a standing elbow.
Fight of the Night: Jared Cannonier vs. Ion Cutelaba
The main and co-main event bouts both made very strong arguments for fight of the night honors, but in the end, the $50,000 bonus checks went to light heavyweight prospects Jared Cannonier and Ion Cutelaba, who put on the kind of back and forth slugfest that combat sports fans know and love. Both guys lit each other up, but Cannonier had the gas tank to keep throwing for the full fifteen minutes, and Cutelaba didn’t. The $50,000 bonus check will probably go a long way to taking the sting out of the loss for Cutelaba, and it’ll be icing on the cake for Cannonier.
