Former heavyweight belt holder Tyson Fury came out of the woodwork today to give his thoughts on Deontay ‘Bronze Bomber’ Wilder’s dramatic 10th round knockout of Cuban talent Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz (28-1, 24 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

After the inactive 29-year-old Fury briefly complimented Deontay for an excellent fight, he then preceded to start mouthing off by saying he’s certain now that he can beat the 6’7’ Bronze Bomber. Fury says he knows he can knockout Wilder after what he saw last night. Fury states that he will knockout Deontay if they ever fight each other.

Fury is talking boldly for a fighter that was only recently weighing about 400 lbs. Fury still hasn’t trimmed all the weight off yet, and he’s now been out of the ring for 2 ½ years. I’m just wondering why Fury wasn’t talking boldly before Wilder fought Ortiz. It was only after the fight that Fury started to show some backbone and say he can beat Wilder.

”I stayed up late to watch Deontay and Luis fight,” Tyson Fury said on his Instagram. ”It was a great fight. There’s no doubt in my mind that I can beat Deontay Wilder. Everything about Deontay Wilder makes it easy for me. Deontay Wilder is 40-0 with 39 knockouts. I once got in the ring with him and promised I’d knock him out anyplace anytime. After last night, I really know it’s true. If he ever fights me, I’ll knock him out,” Fury said.

I think it’s safe to say that Fury WON’T be fighting Deontay anytime soon. Fury is still overweight and looking more like a retired ex-fighter than an active guy. When Fury does resume his stalled boxing career, it would be nice to see him take on a top contender at least before he tries to get a cash out fight against Anthony Joshua. I doubt Fury will do that.

There’s a lot of talk from boxing fans that Fury is going to take a few fights against subpar journeymen level opposition, and then face Joshua in a cash-out fight. Fury will then retire from the sport. Gosh, I hope that’s not why Fury is making a comeback for. I’d like to think he’s coming back to honestly give it a go to try and win back his lost heavyweight titles.

Fury is talking, but as far as I can tell, he still doesn’t have a fight scheduled and he’s been mouthing off for months about his comeback. He was stripped of his titles years ago, and he hasn’t gotten near a ring since then to continue his career.

Fury’s slapping fighting style wouldn’t work for him against Wilder or Luis Ortiz. Both of those guys would have a field day against Fury. He can’t punch, and he’s always so heavy. Each time Fury fights, he packs on a bunch of weight for some reason. With Fury, it’s one step forward two steps backwards in terms of his weight. It takes ages for Fury to lose the weight, and when he does finally drop the weight, he puts it right back on after he wins his fights.
