It appears we’re on the eve of Tyson Fury’s return to boxing. The former heavyweight titleholder has reportedly inked a deal with promoter Frank Warren and is expected to announce his official return to action on June 9th at a press conference scheduled for later today.
Fury, 29, has been out of action for over two years following the biggest win of his career — a decision over Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015 — but saw his career derailed as he battled mental health and substance abuse issues which led to a lengthy ban from the British Boxing Board of Control.
Fury also ballooned up in weight during his time away from boxing, which is sort of saying something considering he was never built like an Adonis, but to his credit he looks like he’s shed a lot of that over the past several months.
The comeback opponent for Fury has yet to be announced, but he has had his name throw around with Shannon Briggs lately, a 46-year-old fighter who’s just as big of a loud mouth as Fury. Briggs’ best days are behind him for sure, but he’s still a lot of fun as far as promotion is concerned — and he’s a pretty safe fight for Fury if he can regain anything close to his past form.
