Back in June, when Tyson Fury broke a two-and-a-half-year layoff to fight Sefer Seferi, he weighed in at 276 pounds.
That was the heaviest weight of Fury’s pro career on the scales, edging out his 2014 fight where he weighed 274 pounds in a win over Joey Abell, a time he was openly criticized for his dedication following a 10-month absence from the ring.
But Fury (26-0, 19 KO) had ballooned in weight during this recent extended break from boxing, and getting to 276 wasn’t so bad given the circumstances.
Today, he weighed in at 258 for Saturday’s fight in Belfast against Francesco Pianeta, dropping a further 18 pounds and showing he’s clearly serious about this ring comeback as he prepares for a potential late 2018 fight with WBC champion Deontay Wilder.
For what it’s worth, Fury seems to work best between 245-250 pounds or so. He weighed in at 247 for his 2015 win over Wladimir Klitschko, the biggest victory of his career by far.
Pianeta (35-4-1, 21 KO) weighed in at 254½ for the fight.
In the main event, Carl Frampton (25-1, 14 KO) will defend the interim WBO featherweight title against Luke Jackson (16-0, 7 KO). That fight is good to go. Frampton weighed in at the limit of 126, with Jackson at 124¾.
