In the opening bout of the UFC 210: Cormier vs. Johnson 2 main card in Buffalo, New York, lightweight contender Will Brooks faced Charles Oliveira in an important bout for both men.
Brooks may have had the size advantage on Oliveira, but Oliveira’s grappling and wrestling proved to be far too much for the former Bellator lightweight champion to handle, as he took Brooks’ back and finished him with a rear-naked choke in just half a round.
Oliveira tripped Brooks down to begin the fight. Brooks was able to get back to his feet, but Oliveira powerfully slammed him down again, then took his back and went for a standing rear-naked choke. The Brazilian locked it in tight and Brooks had no choice but to tap. An incredible performance by “Do Bronx” to get himself back in the win column after losing his previous two fights. A disappointed Brooks is now just 1-2 in the UFC.
Official result: Charles Oliveira def. Will Brooks by submission (standing rear-naked choke) at 2:30 of round 1
