Check out the results of the three Fight Pass preliminary card bouts at UFC 212: Aldo vs. Holloway in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The UFC 212 Fight Pass prelims are in the books. Newcomer Deiveson Alcantara got things kicked off with a stoppage win, Luan Chagas turned in a very impressive performance against Jim Wallhead, while Viviane Pereira comfortably outstruck Jamie Moyle for the first decision of the night. Here’s how the fights played out.
Viviane Pereira def. Jamie Moyle by unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27) – Women’s Strawweights
Round 1 wasn’t exactly scintillating stuff. There was a prolonged battle for underhooks and not many clean strikes landed. Pereira caught Moyle twice with right hands after catching kicks. Moyle found success with combination punching but neither fighter clearly stamped their case for winning the round.
Pereira seized control of round 2, throwing with considerably power and causing a mouse to develop under Moyle’s right eye. The Brazilian was clearly landing the more powerful and precise strikes, particularly the jab and the right hand.
Not much changed in round 3, as Pereira continued to outstrike Moyle in a rather unexciting affair. Moyle was unable to cope with Pereira’s power, timing, and speed. It’s a second straight win inside the Octagon for Pereira, while Moyle drops to 1-1 in her young UFC career.
Luan Chagas def. Jim Wallhead by submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:48 of round 2- Welterweights
Both men were aggressive in the opening round, but Chagas was the far more accurate and powerful striker. He also worked a solid counterpunching game. The leg kicks in particularly were posing problems for “Judo” Jimmy. Chagas frequently switched stances and stuffed the takedowns by Wallhead. A great combination which included a left high kick had Wallhead in a little bit of trouble, but he weathered the storm and saw out a round he otherwise clearly lost.
Wallhead did have some success with the right hand but he was still eating counters and taking serious damage. To his credit, he did well to absorb the punches and kicks from Chagas. He also endured a groin strike and an eyepoke, but Chagas wasn’t deducted a point for these offenses. In the final minute of the 2nd stanza, a big left hook dropped Wallhead, and Chagas took the back and sunk in the fight-ending rear-naked choke. Beautiful performance from Chagas in front of the Brazilian fans. Wallhead is now 0-2 inside the Octagon.
Deiveson Alcantara def. Marco Beltran by TKO (punches) at 5:00 of round 2 – Flyweights
Alcantara was able to get an early takedown and hold Beltran down, then worked on a mounted guillotine. The Mexican was able to sweep him but Alcantara held onto the choke while in guard. Beltran took his time, wriggled himself free, and delivered big ground-and-pound as round 1 drew to a close.
Beltran was active with his kicks to start round 2, but a very bad jumping knee attempt led him to fall to his back. “Figueiredo” immediately got on top and quickly advanced to mount. Beltran was able to scramble to half-guard. Alcantara took Beltran’s back and looked for the rear-naked choke, but couldn’t sink it in. Towards the end of the round, Figuiredo had to fend off a heel hook, which he did, and they went back to striking. A big uppercut by Alcantara rocked Beltran and had him down. He went in for the finish and Beltran appeared to be saved by the bell, but referee Osiris Maia called it off before round 3 began. It’s a debut win for Deiveson and a tough second loss in a row for Beltran, who came into this bout just days removed from the death of his mother.
