Dana White announced that the bantamweight championship tilt between Garbrandt and Dillashaw will take place at UFC 213.
After weeks of coaching opposite each other as arch rivals on the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter, ex-teammates Cody Garbrandt and T.J. Dillashaw will square off at UFC 213 on July 8.
UFC president Dana White announced the news at the UFC 210 post-fight press conference, which saw Daniel Cormier retain his light heavyweight title against the now-retired Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson in the main event.
White announced Garbrandt-Dillashaw while answering a question about a potential championship rematch between ‘DC’ and Jon Jones at the same event.
“Obviously, Cody and T.J. are already on that card (at UFC 213), so yeah, we’ll see how that goes,” he said, per Damon Martin of FOX Sports.
‘No Love’ went on to confirm the bout on Twitter.
A grudge match between bantamweight champ Garbrandt and Dillashaw is the only fight that has been announced, but Michael Bisping is expected to defend his middleweight title against the newly-returned Georges St-Pierre in the main event.
Garbrandt, a winner of eleven-straight, shocked the world when he battered Dominick Cruzfrom pillar-to-post in their championship epic at UFC 207. The brash 25-year-old is the now the youngest champ on the roster and will defend his title against Dillashaw on July 8 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Ultimate Fighter 25, which features Garbrandt and Dillashaw as opposite coaches, is set to debut on FS1 on Wednesday, April 19.
