UFC light heavyweight contender Volkan Oezdemir highlighted a list of 10 fighters to be given medical suspensions in the aftermath of UFC 220. The Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation released the event’s finalized medical suspension report Tuesday to MMA Fighting.
Oezdemir suffered a second-round TKO loss to 205-pound champion Daniel Cormier in the night’s co-main event. As a result of damage sustained in the contest, the Swiss knockout artist will be forced to sit out 45 days before returning to active competition, per Massachusetts commission officials.
The nine other fighters who received similar medical suspensions were: Shane Burgos (60 days), Sabah Homasi (60 days), Gleison Tibau (60 days), Thomas Almeida (45 days), Dan Ige(45 days), Francis Ngannou (30 days), Calvin Kattar (30 days), Gian Villante (30 days), andEnrique Barzola (30 days).
Notably, the Massachusetts state commission does not publicly release the cause behind specific fighter medical suspensions.
UFC 220 took place Jan. 20 at the TD Garden in Boston, Mass. The night’s main card aired live on pay-per-view.
