UFC 221’s Israel Adesanya: I mock ‘peed’ in the cage to mark my territory

Israel Adesanya explains why he joked about peeing in the cage after his victory over Rob Wilkinson at UFC 221.

Undefeated middleweight prospect Israel Adesanya made his Octagon debut at UFC 221 last night and impressed scores of fans with his second-round demolition of Rob Wilkinson at the Perth Arena in Australia.

Adesanya, who ‘slow cooked’ Wilkinson in the first round and ‘fried him’ in the second, got off to a slow start but eventually overwhelmed Razor with a barrage of pinpoint strikes to earn a $50k performance of the night bonus.

The Nigerian-born fighter joked about peeing in the Octagon in his post-fight interview and elaborated on that strange remark backstage.

“I’m the new dog in the yard, and I just pissed all over the place,” Adesanya said when asked why he mock-peed in the Octagon, per Submission Radio. “Came in the cage, pissed everywhere. I know dogs, when they’re dominant; when a dog walks into a dog park – head high, tail high, and just kinda pees all over the place to mark his territory. And let them know, ‘that’s my spot’. That’s how dogs communicate with body language, so I just pissed all over the place.

“I didn’t plan it, it just happened.”

Adesanya made his UFC debut on the FOX Sports 1 preliminary card but will likely receive a promotional push to the main card in his next bout.

The 28-year-old is a former kickboxer with a professional kickboxing record of 65-5-2. The New Zealand-based fighter first started competing in mixed martial arts in 2012 and has gone on to win twelve-straight fights, finishing all of his opponents via KO or TKO. Adesanya would like to break into the top-ten UFC middleweight rankings by next year, and hopes to stay active in 2018.
