The UFC has its first disqualification of 2018.
Hector Lombard was DQ’d at the end of the opening round of his UFC 222 middleweight bout against C.B. Dollaway on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Lombard belted Dolloway with a wicked overhand left to the jaw which was thrown after the horn sounded to end the opening round. Referee Mark Smith checked out the video replay at cageside after the round.
When Dolloway, who was basically out on his feet and asking what had happened, could not continue, the bout was waved off and Dollaway declared the victor.
The opening round had been a methodical and nondescript affair, with both fighters staking out their territory, until the final exchange. Lombard landed a right hand as the round ended and then wound up for the left well after the horn sounded.
Dolloway improved to 17-8 with his second straight victory. Lombard (34-9-1, 2 NC) has now lost five in a row.
