Lightweight headliner Al Iaquinta highlighted a list of 11 fighters to receive extended medical suspensions in the aftermath of UFC 223. The New York State Athletic Commission released the event’s medical suspension report on Tuesday to MMA Fighting.
Iaquinta suffered a gritty but ultimately lopsided unanimous decision loss to new UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in the night’s main event, which was booked on just one-day notice after Max Holloway was deemed medically unfit to compete. As a result of damage sustained in the contest, Iaquinta will be forced to sit out 60 days before returning to active competition, per NYSAC officials.
The 11 other fighters who received similar extended medical suspensions were: Kyle Bochniak(60 days), Zabit Magomesharipov (45 days), Joe Lauzon (45 days), Rose Namajunas (30 days),Joanna Jedrzejczyk (30 days), Renato Moicano (30 days), Calvin Kattar (30 days), Ashlee Evans-Smith (30 days), Devin Clark (30 days), and Olivier Aubin-Mercier (14 days). The remaining seven fighters on the card received precautionary seven-day medical suspensions.
UFC 223 took place April 7 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The night’s main card aired live on pay-per-view.
