Opening up the UFC 226 main card was a major win for light heavyweight Khalil Rountree, as he knocked out former Glory kickboxing champion Gokhan Saki in less than two minutes. It’s a huge win for Rountree, who is 3-0 (1 NC) in his last four fights, and a devastating one for Saki’s prospects of being a potential contender in his full-time switch to MMA, as he drops to 1-2 overall in his career.
As expected, it was nothing but kickboxing. A straight left dropped Saki, and hammerfists put Saki away. Saki tried to stand up and was on wobbly legs the entire way. Rountree is known to be a powerful striker, even without the kickboxing credentials of Saki, and “Turkish Tyson” tasted his power and could not hold up against The Ultimate Fighter 23 runner-up.
Official result: Khalil Rountree def. Gokhan Saki by KO (punches) at 1:36 of round 1
