Longtime commentator Joe Rogan was blown away by Daniel Cormier’s performance at UFC 226, telling ‘DC’ that it felt like ‘a portal had opened up’ after the former Olympian knocked outStipe Miocic to become the promotion’s first ever simultaneous light heavyweight and heavyweight champion.
Rogan’s hilarious reaction was caught on the UFC’s ‘Thrill & Agony’ preview, a behind-the-scenes look at last week’s historic pay-per-view at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Rogan also jokingly referred to Cormier as the ‘champ champ’, a term coined by Conor McGregorafter the Irish superstar knocked out Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 to become a simultaneous featherweight and lightweight champion.
The Thrill & Agony preview also included Miocic’s humble reaction to the KO and UFC presidentDana White congratulating Cormier backstage. Cormier also had an intimate moment with longtime friend and teammate Cain Velasquez, who he thanked for preparing him in the many weeks leading up to the bout at American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, California.
WWE superstar Brock Lesnar called the UFC heavyweight division ‘weak’ and is expected to challenge Cormier for the title, although the earliest Lesnar can return to the Octagon is January, 2019 due to USADA regulations.
