UFC 227 Fight Pass prelim results and highlights: Perez blasts Torres, Vera buckles Buren

The UFC 227 Fight Pass prelims just concluded with Alex Perez putting hands on Jose Torres to pick up the first round TKO. Before that, Weili Zhang showed off her power, marching down Danielle Taylor to win a unanimous decision. Opening up the event, Marlon Vera zeroed in on a wicked body shot to finish Wuliji Buren at the end of the second round.

Alex Perez def. Jose Torres by TKO at 3:36 of round 1: Flyweight

Perez came out swinging! Torres was getting all sorts of pieced up right out of the gate, and the onslaught did not let up. Punch after punch landed for Perez as he swarmed Torres, racking up strike after strike. Torres showed heart and hung in there as long as he could, but the volume proved to be too much and Torres hit the deck, forcing the referee to step in. Wow:

Weili Zhang def. Danielle Taylor by unanimous decision (29-28 x3): Strawweight

Zhang’s power was evident here as she was able to muscle Taylor in the clinch and on the ground. Taylor was able to roll for a leg which got her back to her feet, and even landed a heavy hook that wobbled Zhang just before the opening round expired. Zhang continued to march down her opponent in the second round, but Taylor was there sneak in some counter bombs. Taylor looked to stay at distance, and whenever Zhang got overaggressive, she popped her with heavy hooks that registered.

The forward movement of Zhang slowed down a bit in the final frame, but Taylor continued to play the outside. As soon as taylor moved forward with a combo, she was met with a heavy punching combo from Zhang with each of the three punches appearing to do damage. Taylor struggled to close the distance down the stretch, and whiffed on a bunch of her punches.

Marlon Vera def. Wuliji Buren by TKO (body shot) at 4:53 of round 2: Bantamweight

Buren brought the pressure to Vera, marching him down with strikes to start the fight. Vera spent a lot of time on his heels, addressing the heat that Buren was bringing his way. Towards the end of the opening round, Vera stunned his opponent a few times with some hard straights, but Buren adjusted and got a takedown before time expired.

Buren closed the distance and secured a takedown to open up the second round, but Vera was able to scramble back up to his feet. After a bit of back and forth on the feet, Vera picked up a takedown of his own. As soon as Buren stood back to his feet, Vera unloaded a flurry in which a body shot sent Buren crashing to the canvas.
