UFC 230: Jorge Masvidal wanted Nate Diaz fight with Dustin Poirier hurt and of course we didn’t get it

Just when you thought the UFC 230 line up was finally set, top lightweight contender, Dustin Poirier, was forced to withdraw due to injury, canceling one of the most anticipated bouts on theever-troubled fight card.

As a result, Nate Diaz was removed from the card altogether, probably because he’s so damn finicky when it comes to opponents, which promptly ended any chance of Jorge Masvidal stepping up on short notice to throw hands in the “Big Apple.”

“I really wanted that fight,” Masvidal told BJPenn.com Radio. “I think I would’ve matched up very well. I would’ve put the money on me. I’ve got a lot of respect for Nate and Nick. Mainly because of their will. They don’t have the biggest skill set in the game but they probably got some of the most heart in the game.”

Masvidal is currently filming a reality television show but always seems ready to step-in when needed. Unfortunately, not everyone shares the same enthusiasm as “Gamebred,” which is likely why the 32-13 Floridian hasn’t competed since late 2017.

Diaz (19-11), meanwhile, has been out of action since his majority decision loss to Conor McGregor at UFC 202 back in summer 2016, probably because he can afford to fight when and where he wants (thanks to this).
