Outstanding Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner Ryan Hall opened up the televised portion of the UFC 232 preliminary card in style, as he set up a brilliant but brutal heel hook on legendary former UFC champion B.J. Penn, forcing Penn to submit in rapid time.
Hall threw his usual set of kicks, but one of them caused him to fall off balance. Penn threw kicks at Hall’s legs while he was downed before Hall got back to his feet. Hall rolled over a heel hook and it yielded an insta-tap from Penn, who was hobbling after such a quickly locked in submission. That’s what an elite grappler can do to just about anyone, especially given his prolific leg-lock abilities.
After more than two years out of action, Hall makes history by becoming the first man to submit Penn in MMA competition, and he’s extended the former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion’s losing streak to six.
