Uriah Hall’s promise has always lied in his one-punch knockout power.

On Saturday night, it might have saved his UFC career.

The New York City middleweight was handily losing his UFC Fight Pass prelim bout against unbeaten upstart Bevon Lewis at UFC 232.

But Hall, who showed little during the first two rounds, landed the one shot that counted, as he landed a huge counter right hand flush on the jaw early in the third round. The bout was immediately waved off as Hall earned the knockout win at the 1:32 mark at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif.

With that, Hall (14-9) won for just the second time in his past six fights.

“I had to stay patient,” Hall said. “I had to look for an opening, I knew he was starting to get tired and to be honest I was shocked.”

Lewis, who earned his spot in the UFC this summer on Contender Series, pushed the a furious pace in the opening round, landing early and often with a wide variety of strikes. He outlanded Hall 39-9 in significant strikes over the first five minutes.

In the second, Lewis’ output slowed, but Hall didn’t exactly pour it on, either. Lewis (6-1) tried to pick things up again in the third, but he got sloppy and missed a looping overhand, which left him wide-open for Hall’s counter.

“His range was a litle open,” Lewis said. “I get my best when I get angry, I was confident and my coach said ‘c’mon’ and I said ‘F it’ and I found my opening.”

The victory was the 10th career knockout for Hall, the TUF 17 finalist.
