UFC Atlantic City’s Ulka Sasaki will get only partial compensation for cancelled fight 31

Bloodyelbow.com

One of the two UFC Atlantic City fights cancelled on Friday was a flyweight bout between Ulka Sasaki and Magomed Bibulatov. A lingering back injury for Bibulatov caused him to withdraw from the card, and that obviously meant Sasaki was also not going to compete on Saturday night.

Neither fighter weighed in, so one would assume that’s a reason Sasaki didn’t get his base fight purse. In fact, as Ariel Helwani reported on Friday, Sasaki is only getting about half of his purse as compensation.

Ulka Sasaki, who was supposed to fight Magomed Bibulatov tomorrow night before Bibulatov withdrew due to an injured back, was told by the UFC he’ll be getting 10k for his efforts, sources confirm.

His show money was supposed to be 21k.

Of course, the other fight scrapped was Leslie Smith vs. Aspen Ladd, after Ladd missed weight and Smith declined a catchweight against here. In this instance, the UFC gave Smith her full fight purse plus her win bonus, but as a result, her contract has expired and she is now a free agent. It is not expected that the UFC will re-sign Smith.

So two cancelled fights but two very different outcomes in terms of compensation.

UFC Fight Night: Barboza vs. Lee begins on UFC Fight Pass at 7:30 PM ET, with the rest of the card airing on FOX Sports 1 at 8 PM ET.
