Because of his weight miss, Deiveson Figueiredo became ineligible to win the vacant flyweight title at UFC Norfolk. Even with a second-round TKO win over Joseph Benavidez, the 125-pound division title remains vacant.
Figueiredo went on to apologize during his Octagon interview with Michael Bisping.
“Guys, please, forgive me for not making weight,” Figueiredo said through his manager and translator Wallid Ismail. “I was always a professional in the promotion, but it happened. Next time I will make weight. I promise you that. And I said I was going to give you guys a show tonight, and I gave you guys a show.”
But for light heavyweight contender Anthony Smith, that apology is not enough.

“I want, like, overwhelming apologies,” Smith told Kamaru Usman and Karyn Bryant during the ESPN+ post-fight show. “I know that sounds silly, but that’s what I want. You missed weight, you took an opportunity away from the entire division. Now, we don’t even have a champion. And that’s your fault.
“I would feel better about it if he was more apologetic,” he added.
“Lionheart” also wants Henry Cejudo back at 125 pounds and fight Figueiredo
“I think Henry, after he fights Aldo, you need to come back down to 125 and let’s see that fight,” Smith said.
It didn’t take long for the “King of Cringe” to get win of Smith’s statements and issue a response. The Mexican-American fighter professed his love for Donald Trump, and says he’s going back down to “keep the flyweight division great.”

Cejudo relinquished the flyweight title in December. He will now defend the bantamweight belt against Jose Aldo at UFC 250 on May 9th in Brazil.
