Andrea Lee’s debut was worth the wait.
After her first UFC appearance was nixed last October, the former Legacy Fighting Alliance champion made a big splash in the Octagon with a Fight of the Night-winning performance against an equally game Veronica Macedo on the main card of UFC Chile at the Movistar Arena in Santiago on Saturday.
Both women’s flyweights were rewarded with a $50,000 bonus for a hard-fought three-round battle that ended in Lee capturing a unanimous decision win. The 29-year-old Texan joined the promotion with a reputation as an action fighter and she didn’t disappoint.
Performance of the Night bonuses were awarded to Peru’s Claudio Puelles and Mexico’s Gabriel Benitez, who authored two of the year’s most memorable finishes.
Puelles came back from being down on the scorecards to shock Felipe Silva with a third-round kneebar submission, while Benitez broke out a powerful slam just 39 seconds into round one to silence Humberto Bandenay.
