UFC featherweight contender Yair Rodriguez headlined a list of six fighters to be issued medical suspensions in the aftermath of UFC Denver.
The Colorado State Boxing Commission released the event’s finalized medical suspension report to MMA Fighting on Wednesday.
Rodriguez defeated “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung with a Knockout of the Year frontrunner at 4:59 of the fifth round in a thrilling contest that Rodriguez was literally one second away from losing on the scorecards in the main event of UFC Denver.
As a result of damage sustained in the contest, Rodriguez will be forced to seek doctor’s clearance on his potential injuries or sit out 180 days before returning to active competition, per commission officials. Both Rodriguez and Jung were hospitalized after the fight.
The only other fighter who received a similar potential 180-day medical suspension was Maycee Barber, the UFC newcomer who brutalized Hannah Cifers en route to a second-round TKO victory in her Octagon debut.
UFC Denver took place November 10 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. The night’s main card aired live on FOX Sports 1.
