Brandon Moreno continues his climb up the UFC flyweight rankings following last week’s win over Dustin Ortiz.
The new UFC rankings update is out, and understandably there aren’t many changes due to the lack of ranked fighters on last week’s UFC Nashville card. What has been affected the most is the flyweight division, as Brandon Moreno is just two spots shy of the top-5, having scored a stunning submission win over Dustin Ortiz. One can only think that a title shot is within touching distance for the Mexican.
You can catch the full UFC rankings here.
Pound-for-Pound: No changes
Women’s Strawweight: Jessica Penne’s loss sends her out of the rankings, moving Justine Kish up to 14th, as well as Cynthia Calvillo to 15th.
Flyweight: Brandon Moreno soared three spots to 7th, dropping Tim Elliott to 8th, Ian McCall to 9th, and Dustin Ortiz to 10th. Ben Nguyen also is now ahead of Louis Smolka(who gave him an absurd beating last year), with Nguyen in 12th and Smolka down in 13th. It hurts to have a three-fight losing streak, I suppose.
Women’s Bantamweight: Alexis Davis’ win over Cindy Dandois sees her go from 10th to 9th, with women’s featherweight champion Germaine de Randamie dropping to 10th because … well … there are no women’s featherweight rankings. Ketlen Vieira climbs one spot to 13th, sending Katlyn Chookagian down to 14th.
Men’s Bantamweight: John Dodson stays put at #7 following his win over Eddie Wineland, who’s fallen to 11th. Johnny Eduardo moves up to 10th, while Pedro Munhoztakes 12th spot over the now 13th-ranked Iuri Alcantara.
Featherweight: No changes
Lightweight: Al Iaquinta’s starching of Diego Sanchez didn’t earn him a bonus, but did earn him a jump from 14th to 11th. Kevin Lee, Evan Dunham, and Gilbert Melendez all got bumped down to 12th-14th.
Welterweight: Jake Ellenberger’s crushing defeat vs. Mike Perry didn’t actually put Perry in the top-15. Instead, Ellenberger is off the list, Matt Brown takes Ellenberger’s old spot at #14, and Leon Edwards rounds things out at #15.
Middleweight: No changes
Light Heavyweight: No changes
Heavyweight: No changes
