The Korean Zombie is back. The featherweight veteran returned from a 42-month layoff to take out Dennis Bermudez in the first round of their headlining bout at UFC Houston, and that was enough to put him right back where he was before he left – in the top 10 at 145.
That wasn’t the only notable outcome rankings-wise at the UFC Fight Night event last weekend, considering the upsets that went down in the cage. So without further ado, let’s look at the changes to the most recent rankings update, which came out late last night.
P4P – No changes.
Heavyweight – No changes.
Light Heavyweight – Ovince Saint Preux’s close decision loss to a debuting fighter hurt his standing, dropping him three spots from six to nine. This allowed Shogun Rua to move up one to six, Corey Anderson to move up two to seven, and Nikita Krylov to move up two to eight. The man that beat OSP, Volkan Oezdemir, makes the list for the first time at 12.
Middleweight – No changes.
Welterweight – Okay, this is weird. They have the up/down arrows all wrong for the division. For example, according to the most recent update, Jorge Masvidal moved up one spot to five. But he was already at five last week, so that makes no sense. Neil Magny isn’t up two to six, he’s only up one, passing Dong Hyun Kim. They don’t have an arrow next to the Stun Gun, but he actually dropped one. Donald Cerrone isn’t up one to eight, he was at eight last week. 9 to 11 haven’t changed despite the errors. Kamaru Usman is actually up two to 12, despite the NR (Not Ranked) beside his name. He was ranked last week – at 14. Jake Ellenberger and Matt Brown are actually down one (not up one) to 13 and 14. And Albert Tumenov is at 15, same as last week, despite the NR.
Geesh.
Lightweight – Donald Cerrone has finally been removed from the lightweight rankings. He was at 12 before. That allowed Francisco Trinaldo, Evan Dunham, and Al Iaquinta to move up one spot to 12, 13, and 14 respectively. Will Brooks re-enters the list at 15.
Featherweight – Chan Sung Jung entered right into the nine spot with his big win, taking the spot of the man he beat, Dennis Bermudez. Bermudez drops two to 11. Dooho Choi is down one to 12. Darren Elkins is down two to 14, and Renan Barao is down one to 15.
Bantamweight – No changes (Iuri Alcantara was already at 15 last week despite the NR – another mistake).
Flyweight – No changes.
Women’s Bantamweight – No changes.
Women’s Strawweight – Jessica Andrade’s big win over Angela Hill moved her up one spot to three, dropping Rose Namajunas to four. Felice Herrig entered the list at 12 after her win over Alexa Grasso. Grasso dropped two to 14.
