UFC fighter rankings: Shevchenko soars to top 3 following Holm win

Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

The latest edition of the UFC rankings sees Valentina Shevchenko make a big jump in the women’s bantamweight division following her upset victory over Holly Holm.

The UFC rankings took a little longer to update this week, which is why this post is out on Thursday instead of Monday or Tuesday. Whatever the reason for the delay, the new rankings are here following last Saturday’s UFC on FOX 20, and there was plenty of movement in the women’s bantamweight division. Valentina Shevchenko is now only behind Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate in the list of contenders to challenge for Amanda Nunes‘ belt. Holly Holm did stay in the top 5 despite another defeat, although Julianna Pena may argue she should be ranked above her.

Here are the full UFC rankings, with the individual ballots from media panelists available to read in the dropdown menu at the top left of the page.

Pound-For-Pound: T.J. Dillashaw moves up one spot to 14th, dropping Frankie Edgarto 15th.

Women’s Strawweight: Jessica Aguilar is at 13th, sending Randa Markos down to 14th.

Bantamweight: Eddie Wineland’s big win over Frankie Saenz sees him rise three places to 12th. Jimmie Rivera moves into a tie for 13th with Johnny Eduardo, while Saenz falls to 15th.

Women’s Bantamweight: We already covered Shevchenko’s ascension from 7th to 3rd. Holm dropped two spots to 4th, which puts Ronda Rousey back up in 2nd. Julianna Pena went down a notch to 5th (because of Shevchenko), as did Cat Zingano to 6th, and Sara McMann to 7th. Raquel Pennington is in a tie for 8th with the seemingly inactive Liz Carmouche. Katlyn Chookagian rose another spot to 14th, while Marion Reneaurounds out the list.

Featherweight: Chad Mendes‘ two-year USADA ban means he’s out of the rankings. He was previously ranked 4th, so everyone below him got the beneficial bump. Also of note,Doo Ho Choi is now ranked 12th.

Lightweight: Edson Barboza’s win over Gilbert Melendez was enough to get him into 5th spot, with Donald Cerrone down to 6th. Cerrone is one of the few fighters who can be ranked in multiple weight classes, for the record. Melendez re-enters the list at 14th, while Rashid Magomedov slips to 15th as a result of Gilbert’s return.
