In the main event of UFC Fort Lauderdale. Jack Hermansson put on the performance of his career to outlast Jacare Souza to a win a unanimous decision.
What was the high point of the fight?
Hermansson started off on the backfoot and attempted to chop down Jacare with some hard leg kicks. Towards the end of the first round Hermansson locked on to an arm-in guillotine but Jacare did a great job of defending the choke.
“The Joker” dominated all of round two after landing a takedown and attacking Jacare from the top. Body shots from Jacare in the third round started to add up an slow down Hermansson. In the fourth Hermansson put his foot on the gas and upped his striking output, and Jacare had to chase the finish in the fifth but he never found it.
Where do these two go from here?
Jacare was originally sceptical about accepting the fight with Hermansson after Yoel Romero pulled out, but when the UFC promised him a middleweight title shot with a win, he accepted the fight. The loss is therefore very disappointing for Souza, who will likely have to get a few more wins under his belt if he is to get a title shot.
Hermansson is now on a four-fight winning streak with the win over Souza. This is undoubetdly the biggest win of the 30-year-old’s career, however it’s unclear what is next for Hermansson. “The Joker” hasn’t warranted a title shot with the win, so maybe a fight with Romero is next for the Swede
