Anthony Smith picked up a big win on Sunday and a big bonus check too.
“Lionheart” was given an extra $50,000 for his Performance of the Night-winning knockout of Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in the main event of UFC Hamburg. The 29-year-old needed just 1:28 to find Rua’s chin and render the former UFC light heavyweight champion limp against the Octagon fence with a flurry of punches.
The evening’s other Performance of the Night award went to undefeated bantamweight Manny Bermudez, who showed off his submission skills with a 59-second triangle choke submission of Davey Grant.
Though 10 of the 13 fights on the card went to a decision, there were several entertaining three-round affairs, including a main card tilt between Danny Roberts and David Zawada which was named Fight of the Night.
It was Roberts who earned a split call after a fight full of back-and-forth grappling, but both men will leave Hamburg with an extra $50,000 in their pockets.
