The UFC light heavyweight division is steadily taking shape with a crop of new contenders. Recent months have seen the likes of Thiago Santos, Johnny Walker, and Dominick Reyes all pick up wins to boost their respective places in the rankings, but one name not to be forgotten is Corey Anderson.

Originally known as “Beastin’ 25/8” before switching his nickname to “Overtime,” Anderson (12-4) has won his last three fights, including decisions over Patrick Cummins, Ilir Latifi and former title challenger Glover Teixeira. As the TUF 19 winner awaits his next challenge, he tweeted his interest in taking on the undefeated Reyes.

Reyes (11-0) is coming off a rather unspectacular split decision win over Volkan Oezdemir at UFC London last weekend, but it’s a win nevertheless, and he now boasts victories over both Oezdemir and Ovince Saint Preux to move his way up to #5 in the UFC’s latest rankings update.

Given that Reyes didn’t impress vs. Oezdemir in the same way he’s done in previous outings, this matchup does make sense. Anderson is #8 but on a three-fight winning streak, and could present different stylistic challenges to test “The Dominator.”

UFC 238 takes place on June 8th, while UFC 239 on International Fight Week is July 6th.
