UFC Moncton results: Court McGee grinds out win over Alex Garcia

When Court McGee is doing his thing, it might not make for the prettiest fight style, but it sure is effective.

McGee shook off a slow start in his UFC Moncton main card opener against Alex Garcia on Saturday night before taking control over the final two rounds. And that was enough to get the TUF 11 champion back in the winner’s circle, as he took the welterweight bout via unanimous decision, earning a pair of 29-28s and a 30-28 at Avenir Center in New Brunswick.

Garcia had his best round in the first, as he used an effective jab to keep McGee at bay.

But McGee figured things out in the second round, as he dropped Garcia early and spent the bulk of the round smothering his opponent from top and side control and dishing out punishment when the opportunity presented itself.

In the third, Garcia did his best to get into back into his rhythm, but he once again found himself stymied by McGee’s grappling. McGee put a punctuation mark on his performance by putting Garcia in a choke as time expired.

For his part, McGee said he doesn’t even think about his opponents heading into fights.

“I haven’t ever watched him fight,” McGee said. “I give the name to my coaches and tell them to tell me what to do. I don’t think about them I think about me and do it from there.”

McGee improved to 19-7 with his ninth career decision win and snapped a two-fight losing streak in the process. Garcia (15-6) has now dropped two straight and three of his past four.
