UFC on ESPN+ 3: Blachowicz vs. Santos live results, discussion, play by play

The headliner comes in the light heavyweight division, where veteran Jan Blachowicz will meet hard-hitting Thiago Santos.

Today’s event is in Europe, so it’s on early in North America. The entire event will air on ESPN+, with the seven-fight prelims kicking off at 11am ET/8am PT. The six-fight main card, for which play-by-play will be provided, kicks off at 2pm ET/11am PT.

Jan Blachowicz vs. Thiago Santos

Round 1 – Body kick from Santos. They trades jabs. Oblique kick from Santos. Outside leg kick from Blachowicz. Santos with one of his own. More kicks from each man. Blachowicz with two more outside leg kicks. Santos with a big right over the top. Blachowicz with another calf kick. Huge left hook from Santos. Body kick from Santos gets caught. Blachowicz can’t get a takedown but he lands a nice right. They both miss with winging lefts. 10-9 Santos.

Round 2 – Santos with the oblique kick. Another. Counter left from Santos. They trade lefts. Body kick from Blachowicz, Santos responds with an outside leg kick. Santos misses with the overhand left. Blachowicz head kick is blocked. Outside leg kick and a left for Blachowicz. Hard right hook and left kick from Blachowicz. Leg kick from Santos. Spinning kick just misses for Santos. Jabs from Blachowicz. Low kick and jab from Santos. Santos misses with two home run left hooks. They trade shots inside. Cartwheel kick from Santos. 10-9 Blachowicz.

Round 3 – Outside leg kick from Blachowicz. Santos drops Blachowicz with a counter left! He’s all over him and gets the finish!

Stefan Struve vs. Marcos Rogerio de Lima

Round 1 – Pezao drops Struve with the first punch of the fight! Struve ties him up in his guard. De Lima is looking to pound him out but he can’t get free. He gets his left arm free and lands a few punches. Struve gets a butterfly hook. Struve looks for a kimura but Pezao defends. Half the round has been spent here. Now he gets the right arm free and lands shots. Struve turns his head away from the fence finally. But De Lima passes to side, then mount with 30 seconds to go. He can’t do anything with it though. 10-8 De Lima.

Round 2 – De Lima lands the same right hand and clinches. He gets a bodylock. Struve hits a trip and jumps into his half guard. Struve trying to get his leg free to get out of half. De Lima adjusts. Struve looks to set up an arm triangle. He’s got it and gets the tap from mount. Didn’t even have to pop out to side. Nice.

Gian Villante vs. Michal Oleksiejczuk

Round 1 – Oleksiejczuk steps up and looks to brawl with Villante. He lands to the body and scores with a left. Villante with an inside leg kick and a right hook. Body kick. Oleksiejczuk with a left. Inside leg kick from Gian. Body shot from Oleksiejczuk and Villante has the delayed reaction. And he’s down. Oleksiejczuk pounds him out and we have our first finish of the main card!

Liz Carmouche vs. Lucie Pudilova

Round 1 – Pudilova kicking. Carmouche almost gets a takedown but can’t quite. They trade kicks. Carmouche has Pudilova pressed against the cage, looking for a takedown. Pudilova is defending well though. She grabs a leg but ends up on her but. Carmouche grapevines the legs as the crowd boos, then tries to encourage the local fighter. They’re pretty much stalled out here. Pudilova is looking for a modified choke from there, but Carmouche easily defends. Carmouche is cut, there’s a lot of blood. Doesn’t look like a dangerous spot though. Pudilova gets up right at the end of the round. 10-9 Carmouche.

Round 2 – Pudilova with a high kick. She’s coming forward. Outside leg kick from Pudilova. Slow pace. Pudilova is out of range and not landing. Carmouche isn’t really firing anything at all other than the odd front kick for range. Halfway through the round. Pudilova with the double jab. Outside leg kick from Pudilova. Carmouche dives on a leg, charges across, and slams Pudilova to the mat with 90 secnds to go. Carmouche ties up the legs again. She steps over into mount. Pudilova uses the cage to reverse position. She drops an elbow, but Carmouche is tying her up. Short elbow. Three more land. 10-9 Pudilova.

Round 3 – Pudilova chasing with kicks. Pudilova with an awkward couple of crescent kicks. Carmouche is out of range though. She presses with a front kick and a jab. Pudilova fires back with her own front kicks now. Light outside leg kick from Pudilova. Carmouche checks the next one. She lands her own inside leg kick. Ax kick from Pudilova is caught and she’s taken down. Carmouche is in side, looking to attack an arm. She lands a few elbows to the hip. Pudilova can’t bump her off. 90 seconds left. She turns into her and gets half guard back. Carmouche rolls back with a heel hook! Pudilova is desperately trying to pull her leg out. Carmouche keeps rolling with it. Pudilova is elbowing her in the butt. Carmouche won’t let go. Finally she does and Pudilova ends up on top. Carmouche attacks an armbar. Nothing there. Big hammerfists from Pudilova. 10-9 and 29-28 Carmouche.

John Dodson vs. Petr Yan

Round 1 – Dodson charges in but can’t connect with anything. Dodson lands to the body. Dodson brawls his way inside. Yan swats him away. Yan with some body work. Inside leg kick. Dodson catches a kick and puts Yan on his back. Then he helps him up. That was a bit weird. Yan with two big overhand rights! Hard body kick is caught again. Dodson ties him up and lands a knee. Yan just tosses him away again. Dodson with a nice quick left. Yan jumps in with a knee. Dodson gets a body lock. He lands a left on the break. Yan lands a right hook. Yan with a combo. Straight right from Yan. Yan with a combo and they tie up again. Knee to the body from Yan. Yan with a nice pressing right. Dodson slips a short left in. Good round. 10-9 Yan.

Round 2 – They trade rapid fire shots on the inside. Yan with an uppercut, but Dodson lands a counter. Some patty cake. Yan with a hard right. Dodson scoops a single but can’t do anything with it. Dodson charges and lands to the body. Yan moves forward with a right. Another. Dodson fires back with a knee. Inside leg kick from Dodson. Dodson with a right hook that drops Yan! He’s back up but eats another shot! He’s like a cyborg though, continuing to press forward. Huge combo from Yan. He just looks mad now. Body shot from Dodson. Knee from Yan. Body kick from Yan. Yan with a left hook. Body shot from Yan. Counter left from Dodson. Big right over the top from Yan, and again. He lands an elbow too. Great action. Another big shot from Yan. Hard knee to the body. Wow. 10-9 Yan, despite the knockdown.

Round 3 – Dodson flurries early. Dodson with two lefts inside. Yan with all the pressure. Low kick from Dodson. Right scores for Yan. Dodson looks for a takedown but can’t get it. Body shot from Yan. Big right over the top from Yan. Dodson evades well. Flying knee from Yan went right over the top! Dodson ended up underneath him and briefly took Yan to the ground. Yan lands a knee and just misses with a spinning back fist. He steps back and cracks Dodson with a left and a right. Dodson looks to wrestle but Yan ends up on his back. Yan drags him down to his knees briefly. Dodson totally grabs the cage to keep from getting taken down. That should have been a point and the ref barely gave a warning. Yan just resets and lands a right over the top. And again. Yan flurries. Dodson ducks under for a takedown. He complains to the ref that Yan grabbed his glove as he ducks under and lands some punches on the ground. 10-9 and 30-27 Yan.

Magomed Ankalaev vs. Klidson Abreu

Round 1 – They trade punches 30 seconds in. Abreu whiffs on a couple of kicks. They trade inside leg kicks. They clinch. Abreu can’t trip his opponent to the mat. Hard elbow on the break. Ankalaev gets wobbled by a left hook. He seems okay now though. Short right from Ankalaev drops Abreu! He’s back up but his nose is broken. Abreu looks for a takedown, then pulls guard. He’s trying to sweep but there’s nothing happening. Ankalaev is basically just sitting in half. Short elbow from Ankalaev. Another. 10-9 Ankalaev.

Round 2 – Body kick from Ankalaev. Head kick from Abreu. Abreu wades in and eats an uppercut. Combo from Abreu. Ankalaev with a knee to the body. Body kick too. Abreu with an outside leg kick. Another uppercut from Ankalaev. Abreu dives under on a takedown attempt but settles for the clinch. He’s got a bodylock. Ankalaev breaks it and reverses position against the cage. Outside trip attempt from Abreu and Ankalaev just falls on top of him. He’s in half, dropping the odd elbow. Full guard now. 10-9 Ankalaev.

Round 3 – They both miss with haymakers. Uppercut from Ankalaev. Abreu gets a kick caught. Ankalaev ends up on top briefly, then cracks Abreu with an uppercut as he comes up. Jab from Ankalaev. Abreu misses with a wheel kick. Jab from Ankalaev. Body shot from Abreu. Inside leg kick from Ankalaev. They clinch against the cage with 1:45 to go. Few knees from Ankalaev. Elbow over the top. Ankalaev looks for a takedown but can’t get it. The ref separates them with 35 seconds to go. Ankalaev lands to the chest and connects with a counter uppercut. 10-9 and 30-27 Ankalaev.
