UFC on FOX 29’s Carlos Condit hopes to have fight with Matt Brown rebooked

Carlos Condit and Matt Brown have a mutual interest in having their fight rescheduled at a later date.

Brown, 37, was forced to pull out of tonight’s UFC on FOX 29 card just two weeks out from the event, citing a knee injury he picked up in training.

‘The Immortal’ was slated to face Condit in the co-main event and hopes to return to action against ‘The Natural Born Killer’ when he’s recovered from injury.

Wish it was all April Fools but I did tear my acl over the weekend. I hope @CarlosCondit gets an opponent and doesn’t have to lose out on the opportunity. We’ll do it for sure when I’m back.

Condit, who will now face Alex Oliveira in the new co-main event, returned the sentiment at the UFC on FOX 29 media day and said he’d ‘be down’ for a scrap with Brown later in the year.

“If it came up, I’d be down,” Condit told MMA Junkie ahead of his welterweight bout with Oliveira. “That’s a fight that would be fun, intriguing, (and) a lot of fan engagement.”

Condit, 33, had an even earlier date set with Brown back in 2013. But that, too, fell apart at the last minute due to injury and the UFC was unable to find a suitable replacement opponent for the Jackson-Wink product.

“If it came about, and he could stay healthy – because the last one, I didn’t get a replacement,” Condit said. “The first time he got hurt, I was just out, and that sucked. But at least this time, I got a replacement.”

Condit has lost three fights on the trot and the pressure is on against ‘Cowboy’, but the ex-interim welterweight champion wants to make sure he still has ‘fun’ and puts on a good show for the Arizona locals.

“That’s really where my goals lie,” he said. “And with that, paychecks, f-ck yeah. But go out there, have fun, put on good performances, and continue to entertain.”

“I expect to win, and I expect to put on a good performance. But if not, personally, I’m still confident. It’s not going to crush me. I’m more than just this.”

UFC on FOX: Poirier vs. Gaethje takes place later tonight, April 14 at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
