In the co-main event of UFC Fight Night: Gustafsson vs. Teixeira in Stockholm, Sweden, light heavyweight Volkan Oezdemir established himself as a formidable contender with a quick stoppage of the highly-touted Misha Cirkunov. Oezdemir was ranked #5 entering this contest, while Cirkunov was #7, but Cirkunov was the considerable favorite. The Swiss fighter had other ideas and pulled off the stunner at the Ericsson Globe.
Cirkunov came blitzing forward after landing a straight right. As Misha swarmed on his opponent against the fence, Oezdemir answered with a short right hand to the side of the ear, and Cirkunov dropped like a sack of potatoes. Two more punches put Cirkunov out and that was all she wrote.
Official result: Volkan Oezdemir def. Misha Cirkunov by KO (punches) at :28 of round 1
What an incredible win for Oezdemir, who moves to 2-0 in the UFC, while Cirkunov’s undefeated record in the UFC ends at four.
