Gregor Gillespie continues to make his name in the UFC lightweight division.
The buzzsaw from Long Island put on another impressive performance on Friday night, scoring a one-sided victory over Vinc Pichel to improve to 12-0.
The victory came by way of submission at the 4:06 mark of the secound round at UFC Utica.
Gillespie set the tone in the opening round as he instantly shot for a single-leg takedown which he scored with ease. Pichel got back to his feet, but Gillespie got him right back to the mat an continued to work him over. Gillespie got a tight choke, but Pichel was saved by the bell.
“The Fisherman” continued to overwhelm Pichel on the ground in the second round. This time, he worked his way into a head-and-arm choke, and this time, Pichel wasn’t going to be saved by the horn.
The win was the fifth via submission of Gillespie’s career, and made him 5-0 in the UFC. Pichel (11-2) had a four-fight win streak snapped.
“Vinc is a really tough opponent, he was tough to take down and he was very, very tough to get off the bottom … persistence is everything. You miss one spot, you miss 10, whatever, you get the 19th one.”
