UFC vet seriously injured after leaping into traffic

Ex-UFC fighter Terry Etim was hospitalized on Wednesday after eyewitnesses reported that he threw himself against multiple vehicles in the Old Swan region of Liverpool, England, which is Etim’s hometown. The Liverpool Echo has the details on what is a truly troubling story,

It appeared he threw himself against as many as four vehicles, including three single-decker Stagecoach and Arriva buses. All except one were believed to be stationary at the time.

He was eventually restrained by police and taken to hospital. His condition was this evening described as serious.

The dramatic events in East Prescot Road close to the Navigator pub traffic lights junction began shortly after 2pm.

Eyewitnesses who work in a nearby parade of shops first became aware of a man running in and out of traffic and throwing himself against the windscreens of a number of vehicles, leaving him covered in blood.

One witness said that Etim “wasn’t trying to harm anybody but himself. He was covered from head to toe in blood.” Another witness later added that he “went out and helped to restrain the man in a nearby car park, but he wrestled his way out from the people that were holding him down.”

Etim (16-5) last fought in November 2013, winning a unanimous decision over Patrick Cenoble at Bellator 109. He is best known for his eleven-fight career inside the Octagon, which included a four-fight winning streak from 2008-2009, and several Submission of the Night performances. Etim fought Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 112, losing by armbar in round 2. After getting a 17-second guillotine choke over Edward Faaloloto, Etim faced off against Edson Barboza at UFC 142 in January 2012, and suffered a devastating wheel kick KO loss in the final round. The only consolation Etim managed out of the Barboza bout was a $65,000 Fight of the Night check. Etim didn’t compete again until February 2013, when he lost by decision to Renee Forte, and the UFC released him shortly thereafter.

The 31-year-old Etim was due to take part in a Bellator lightweight tournament in 2014, but could not participate after tearing his ACL, and there’s been no news on his fighting career since then.
