UFC veteran Matt Hamill returns to the cage for Unified MMA

Matt Hamill is making a comeback and he’ll be doing so with some gold on the line.

The UFC veteran will take on Teddy Ash for the Unified MMA light heavyweight title in the main event of Unified 33 on May 11 in Enoch, Alberta, Canada, the promotion announced Thursday.

Hamill (12-8) is most known for being a pioneer as a deaf athlete who had a successful run in the UFC. The upstate New York resident was a three-time Division III national champion in wrestling. Hamill, 41, was making a push to be on the upcoming UFC Utica card, since he currently lives in the area. But it appears that the social media campaign failed.

“The Hammer” spent seven years in the UFC from 2006 to 2013. He famously owns the only victory over Jon Jones, albeit via disqualification due to illegal elbows. Hamill won his last fight, beating fellow UFC vet Luiz Cane by knockout in just 38 seconds in April 2017. He has career victories over the likes of Tito Ortiz, Keith Jardine, Tim Boetsch and Mark Munoz.

Ash (9-3) has won four straight and is a 205-pound prospect out of Alberta. The 28-year-old has seven knockouts among his nine victories.

In the Unified MMA co-main event, UFC veteran Shane Campbell will take on Stephen Beaumont for the lightweight title.
